The Opportunity

 

Tullow is offering an exciting opportunity within the Operations M&I team, reporting directly to the Maintenance & Integrity Manager. We are looking for a dynamic Major Works & Special Survey Lead to join us on a Contract basis, located at our office in Accra, Ghana.

 

 

Job Purpose

The Major Works & Special Survey Lead is accountable for developing and delivering both long-term and short-term strategies to maintain the vessel’s Class certification. The role acts as the Company’s focal point for all Class Special Survey-related activities, ensuring full compliance with Class requirements and serving as the principal interface with Class societies and certifying authorities.

The role is responsible for defining the strategic roadmap for major maintenance interventions and survey compliance, coordinating cross-functional planning, and ensuring effective offshore execution. The role requires close collaboration with Maintenance Planning, Engineering, Marine, Procurement, and Offshore Operations teams to ensure all work scopes align with Tullow’s Operational Management System (OMS) and asset integrity objectives.

 

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Strategic & Class Compliance

Develop and maintain the long-term Class Survey strategy and associated 5-year compliance roadmap.

Serve as the primary point of contact for all Class-related inspections, audits, and survey requirements.

Coordinate with Classification Societies to manage inspection readiness and certification timelines.

Define and oversee the execution of Special Survey scopes and major works required to maintain Class and regulatory compliance.

Participate in Management of Change (MOC) processes when required for Class-critical systems or modifications.

Planning & Coordination

Ensure assigned scopes are fully represented in the 28-day and 120-day integrated plans and are gate compliant, resourced, and ready for flawless offshore execution.

Build detailed execution plans to feed into the integrated planning cycle, including long-lead scope development and resource requirements.

Interface with Execution Coordinators and offshore teams to ensure alignment with the activity plan and resolution of execution barriers.

Review construction work packs prior to issue to confirm scope completeness, material readiness, and technical clarity.

Support risk assessment, scope assurance, and readiness reviews in collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders.

Execution & Contractor Oversight

Interface with subcontractors to ensure timely delivery of materials and services and review reports, fabrication deliverables, and timesheets as needed.

Liaise with onshore fabrication contractors to ensure delivery of construction and materials aligns with project timelines.

Collaborate with Procurement and Logistics teams to communicate scope priorities and maintain material readiness.

Monitor and report on execution progress, elevating break-in risks, schedule deviations, and scope conflicts for integrated management action.

Elevate priority shifts, conflicts, or execution constraints to line management and support the development of mitigation plans.

Performance & Integrity

Maintain a strong focus on safety, quality, schedule adherence, and budget control throughout planning and execution phases.

Ensure all works comply with Company procedures, industry standards, and Classification Society rules.

Promote continuous improvement in maintenance execution by identifying lessons learned and sharing best practices across teams.

Risk Management

Identify and evaluate issues/events that may positively or negatively impact on project quality, scope, cost, or schedule

Participate in project HIRAs, HAZID, HAZOP, Constructability, Stage Gate and SIMOPS reviews identifying all risk and mitigations to ensure successful outcomes.

Relationships

Act in a transparent manner to share knowledge and experience with other team members; facilitate the mentorship and development of junior staff 

 

Experience & Education

 

BSc Engineering Discipline, Project Management Certification or equivalent

 

Skills

Strong understanding of FPSO systems and similar offshore oil and gas assets.

Familiarity with trade knowledge from multi-discipline contractors and ability to assess job plans for completeness, considering:

    • Task sequencing
    • Materials and tooling requirements
    • Manpower and specialty service needs
    • Simultaneous operations and operational impacts

Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS), particularly Maximo (preferred), and SAP for financials and procurement.

Working knowledge of scheduling tools (e.g., Primavera P6, MS Project) and the data inputs required for effective scheduling.

In-depth understanding of industry standards and regulatory frameworks (e.g., API, ABS, ASME) relevant to offshore oil and gas operations.

Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with proven experience coordinating cross-functional teams
